Presentation
is the most important part
of fly fishing, period! I
don't care how much
experience you have or how
long you've been fishing for
Trout, but the truth is, if
it's not a Natural drift,
well you can forget about
enticing that bite!
Look carefully at the trout
in the front, as he moves up
the gravel bed and takes the
fly from the bottom right of
the screen. Watch closely
because it's very fast! The
Trout then seems to 'chew'
on it and then let's it go!
WOW! Is that cool or what?
Notice all the other stuff
that floats by? Why didn't
the Trout "taste" those as
well? One reason, it's just
stuff in the river that
didn't interest him. Which
goes to the point of this
page; Presentation!
If you understand the
dynamics of the river and
the flow, you will learn
that the surface of the
water moves much faster than
the water at the bed or
bottom, and adjusting for
this variable will certainly
help to increase your catch
rates.
Also keep in mind, any
subtle changes to your line
will affect the movement of
fly or bait, and it's drift.
Why is this important?
Because, if it's not a
Natural Drift, then you get
no takers! And after all,
isn't that the reason you
went fishing in the first
place! Try mending your line
as soon as your fly hit's
the water, and then keep it
still as long as possible,
then mend it again. If you
at least try these tip's you
can become a better angler!
